Nadia Cavner worked as a top financial advisor for her Springfield, Missouri-based company, Nadia Cavner Group Investment Services, for over 20 years before its sale in 2014. Since then, she has contributed significantly to multiple philanthropical causes, including Care to Learn. Nadia Cavner was recognized as the organization’s largest generator of funds and support, having donated more than $100,000 to Care to Learn in 2016.
Care to Learn was established in 2007 to address the health, hunger, and hygiene needs of school-aged children living in poverty throughout the state of Missouri. Its founder, Doug Pitt, created the organization after recognizing that children lacking in these basics were significantly inhibited from performing well in school. Care to Learn operates directly in the schools it serves and relies upon faculty, counselors, nurses, and school administrators to help quickly identify those in need of services. As of 2017, Care to Learn has 32 chapters in various schools throughout the state with plans to continue expanding.
Care to Learn supports its chapters through generous donations and fundraisers throughout the year. Its largest annual fundraising event is the Panther Run, which includes a 5K, a 10K, and a 15K, with over $20,000 in prizes awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each of eight age categories.
